Empa researcher develops catalysts for renewable gasoline
St.Gallen - Alessia Cesarini has been awarded the Empa Entrepreneur Fellowship. The researcher at the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) received the award for her development of catalysts for producing gasoline from renewable molecules such as ethylene and propylene.

Root/Sawston - Perlen Industrieholding AG is joining forces with the UK firm Pulpex. Perlen will receive exclusive production and distribution rights to the fiber-based paper bottles developed by Pulpex across the extended DACH region. The start of production at the Perlen site is expected in 2027.

Empa conducts research on 3D-printed concrete
Dübendorf/Zurich/Seewen – Researchers from Switzerland are collaborating with European partners to develop concrete components made using 3D printing. The material requires almost no cement to be added and can bind carbon dioxide as it hardens.

Researchers use AI and satellite data to identify plastic debris
Ecublens/Wageningen - Under the project AI for Detecting Ocean Plastic Pollution with Tracking (ADOPT), researchers at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) and Wageningen University in the Netherlands are identifying plastic waste in the ocean. They are working with artificial intelligence (AI) and data from the ESA's Sentinel-2 and PlanetScope satellites.
